Parini Hotel: l'edificio originale, prima della ristrutturazione
History:
Giuseppe Parino, who later opted to change his name to Parini, was born in Brianza, Bosisio (now Bosisio Parini, in the Lecco province), on the Pusiano lake. His parents were Francesco Maria Parini, a humble silk merchant, and Angiola Maria Caspani, sister of a priest from a nearby town. The poet's family was of humble origin and quite numerous: his parents, being unable to maintain him in his studies, entrusted him for ten years to the care of Anna Maria Lattuada, a great-aunt living in Milano, where Giuseppe attended to the lower classes at the Scuole di Sant'Alessandro, or Scuole Arcimbolde, schools managed by the barnabite fathers. The barnabite fathers are the members of the congregation founded in 1530 in Milano by Saint Antonio Maria Zaccaria.
In 1741 the great-aunt left as inheritance a small yearly revenue from real estates to the twelve years old nephew, at the condition that he would become a priest. The young boy was of frail constitution and wanted to continue his studies, so he became a religious practitioner (becoming priest in 1754) and continued his studies without remarkable results, as recorded by the school registries from the year 1749 - 1750, which states: "Parinus Joseph: ut plurimum abfuit, subdole per aliquot dies interfuit; litteris testimonialibus habitis, abfuit perpetuo".
The scarce results at school were originating from the young boy's occupation in giving private lessons and copying papers for several law offices, due to his bad economic conditions, and because he was distinctly restive to the stiff and obsolete teaching methods.
From the years spent in that prestigious but conservative school (whose other pupils were Pietro Verri and Cesare Beccaria) he retained the personal readings of the Greek-Latin classics, such as Anacreon, Virgil, Horace and those of the Italian writers Dante, Ariosto, and others from the eighteenth century.

Suggested tours:
- The house of the poet Giuseppe Parini
Located in the town's higher part, it gave shelter to a very young Parini; in fact, he lived here for ten years, from 1729 to 1739.
Albeit the poet lived in Milano, he used to come back often to his house of birth until 1765. After him moving to Milano the house was inhabited by his sister Laura, only survivor of Giuseppe's many siblings. Subsequently the house was inherited by Parini's nephews, who handed it down for generations until 1930. In that year it became state property. It is said that the island arose in one night.
